Tony Hale was brought up in Tallahassee, Florida. While there, Tony studied at the Young Actors Theatre and took part in many theatrical and musical productions. He also attended the Samford University in Alabama and graduated with a degree in journalism in 1992. He then went on to attend the School of Communication & the Arts of Regent University in Virginia, from where he graduated in 1994.

After completing his studies, Tony settled down in New York City, where he continued to live for the next ten years, While there, he helped in setting up a Christian ministry called The Haven, which is a community an of artistically-minded Christians that meets every week.

It was at a Bible study group in New York, where Tony met his future life partner, Martel Thompson, an Emmy Award-winning make-up artist. The couple was married in May 2003 and on 24th February 2006 they welcomed their first child, a baby girl whom they named Loy Ann Hale. The family currently resides in Los Feliz, which is a historic neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Tony started his acting career by making small guest appearances on various TV shows. He made a name for himself, when in 1999, he appeared in the famous VW television advertisement, in which he was seen dancing to the tunes of the song, “Mr. Roboto”. Later, he achieved success by getting pivotal roles in prominent TV shows.

The shows in which Tony has made an appearance on the small screen include, The Least of These, Dawson’s Creek, The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Arrested Development, Case Closed, Andy Barker, P.I., Samantha Who?, ER, Chuck and Rules of Engagement, etc. His upcoming TV shows are Cop House that is currently being filmed and Boldly Going Nowhere that is currently in the process of production.

Tony has also played varying characters on the big screen. His most prominent movies include My Blind Brother, Fortunes, Stranger Than Fiction, Dante’s Inferno, Ctrl Z, Happy Wednesday, The Tale of Despereaux, Weathered, Arlen Faber, The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard and the yet to be released movie The Informant! His upcoming films include In My Sleep, which is currently under post production and The Beautiful Letdown and Arrested Development, which have only been announced as yet.

In 2004, Tony along with his co-stars from Arrested Development won the Future Classic Award at the TV Land Awards. Besides this, Tony and his co-stars were also nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2005 and 2006, under the category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, for Arrested Development.

Role In Arrested Development

In Arrested Development, he plays the role of Byron “Buster” Bluth, the youngest son of the Bluth family. Buster is a student by profession and has finished coursework in cartography, Native American tribal ceremonies, 18th century agrarian business principles, and archaeology. He is awfully immature and socially hopeless and hero worships his brothers, GOB and Michael. He suffers from frequent panic attacks and detests both closed and open spaces. He is scared stiff of sheep, seals, and birds besides which he shows a very irate attitude towards his Korean-born adopted brother, Annyong.
