Michael Cera was born as the second of the three children of Linda and Luigi Cera. His mother was a native of Quebec, while his father, who originally came form Sicily, worked as a Xerox technician. He has two sisters, and is younger to Jordan and older to Molly. In Spanish, Italian and Portuguese languages, Michael’s last name last name implies wax.
Michael first studied at the Conestoga Public School. He then moved on to attend Robert H. Lagerquist Senior Public School and later, the Heart Lake Secondary School, where he studied till his ninth grade. He completed his high school studies through correspondence. Michael loves to play guitar in his free time and according to one of his co-stars, he is very adept at it.
Michael first appeared in a summer camp commercial for Tim Hortons, but was not paid for it. He started his acting career in 1999, when he appeared in the TV series I Was a Sixth Grade Alien, where he portrayed the character of Larrabe Hicks. He then went on to appear on shows like Custody of the Heart, Walter and Henry, Braceface, Exit 9, Rolie Polie Olie, Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, Tom Goes To The Mayor and Children’s Hospital etc.
Michael has also been seen on the big screen portraying various characters in numerous movies. His most prominent movies include Ultimate G’s, Frequency, Darling Darling, Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Paper Heart, Year One and the yet to be released Youth In Revolt and many more. His upcoming movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is currently being filmed and is expected to be released sometime in 2010.
In addition, Michael has also edited, produced, written and directed Clark and Michael, in 2006. He has also performed in the sound track of Juno and composed music for Paper Heart, besides having been involved in the music department Youth in Revolt.
Even though Michael is still stepping into his youth, he has already bagged three prestigious awards besides getting nominated to thirteen others. In 2007, he won the Breakthrough Artist Award of the Austin Film Critics Association, for his work in Juno. In 2007 itself, he won the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards, under the category of Most Promising Performer for Juno. In 2004, Michael, along with his co-stars, was given the Future Classic Award of the TV Land Awards for his work in Arrested Development.

Additionally, Michael has also been nominated once each for a BAFTA Award, Critics Choice Award at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards, MTV Movie Awards, Satellite Awards, Teen Choice Awards and Young Artist Awards. He has been nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award twice, in 2005 and 2006, under the category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his work in Arrested Development.
Role In Arrested Development
In Arrested Development, he plays the role of George Michael Bluth, teenager son of Michael Bluth. He works at the frozen banana stand of the family and is also pursuing his studies. Due to the early death of his mother, George has become very close to his father, Michael, who does not miss any opportunity to spend time with his son. George is also shown to have a crush on his cousin, Maeby, whom he ends up marrying accidentally. Towards the end of the series, the young couple fled to Cabo with the help of his uncle G.O.B’s boat and arrived there to find $500,000 and a house waiting for them.
