Jessica Walter was born as the daughter of Esther and David Walter. Her father worked as a musician and worked as a double-bassist with the NBC Symphony Orchestra underneath Arturo Toscanini. Jessica was brought up in Queens. Jessica attended the High School of Performing Arts in Manhattan and later graduated from the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, where she studied along with James Caan and Christopher Lloyd.

Jessica loves to practice yoga and aerobics. She has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Ross Bowman, whom she married in March 1966. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl named Brooke Bowman, in 1971. However, after living together fro nearly 12 years, the couple divorced in 1978. Five years later, in June 1983, Jessica married actor Ron Leibman, who still continues to be her husband.

Jessica got her big break on television, when she became a part of the regular cast in the soap opera, Love of Life, in 1962. Later she went on to perform myriad character s in over a 100 TV shows. Her most prominent appearances on television, were on shows like, The F.B.I., Medical Center, Amy Prentiss, Trapper John, M.D., Bare Essence, Three’s a Crowd, Aaron’s Way, The Pirates of Dark Water, Murder, She Wrote, Arrested Development, Saving Grace and 90210 to name just a few.

Besides portraying different characters on the small screen, Jessica also won the hearts of millions of movie buffs through her histrionics on the big screen. Her prominent movies include, Lilith, Bye Bye Braverman, Spring Fever, Tapeheads, Ghost in the Machine, Slums of Beverly Hills, My Best Friend’s Wife, Dummy and Unaccompanied Minors, etc. In addition Jessica is also speculated to play a role in the Arrested Development movie, which has only been announced as yet.

For her wonderful work in the entertainment industry, Jessica has been bestowed with three prestigious awards and has also been nominated for another seven glorious awards. In 1975, Jessica won an Emmy Award under the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series for her work in Amy Prentiss. In 2004 she won the Golden Satellite Award under the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Comedy or Musical, for Arrested Development. In 2004, Jessica and her co-stars from Arrested Development won the Future Classic Award at the TV Land Awards.

Besides winning the above mentioned awards, Jessica has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards and three Emmy Awards as well.

Role In Arrested Development

In Arrested Development, Jessica plays the role of Lucille Bluth. She is the matriarch of the Bluth family and the wife of George Oscar Bluth, Sr., and her grandchildren prefer to call her by the name of Gangy. She had a secret affair with her husband’s twin brother, Oscar. She is used to having a luxurious and corrupt lifestyle, and she finances her sumptuous life with the money taken from the Bluth Company. She has earned a reputation for her alcohol abuse and being addicted to prescription drugs. She is also for being dominant and emotionally abusing her children besides knocking her housekeepers about. Her dominance and sheltering has turned her youngest son Buster into an unstable and socially inept person who is prone to panic attacks. Towards the end of the series it is also made known that she is the one who plans all the illegal actions being performed by the Bluth Company.
