Jason Bateman was born as the younger of the two children to Victoria and Kent Bateman. His mother worked as a flight attendant and his father worked as a film and television writer/director, who later established a repertory stage company in Hollywood. Jason’s elder sister, Justine Bateman is also an actress.

Jason studied at the Pacific Hills School. He started acting when he was just ten years old. According to a statement given to the Best Life magazine, Jason claimed of having supported his parents, along with his sister Justine. According to him, the siblings gave the paychecks they earned from their television shows to their parents. Jason also stated that his father had been his manager until he turned twenty, when Jason fired him.

Jason is a huge fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and even wore the Dodgers clothing in his film Hancock. In May 2009, Keith Olbermann claimed on his show, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, that Jason was his friend and that they intermittently attended baseball games together and drank lemonade in New York with another common friend, David Cross.

In July 2001, Jason got married to actress Amanda Anka, who happens to be the daughter of actor and singer Paul Anka. In 2005, Jason underwent a surgery for a bountiful growth of abnormal tissue from his throat. The surgery and the recovery time hindered his work greatly. It was in 2005 itself that Jason was placed at the 60th place on 100 Greatest Kid Stars. Later, on 28 October 2006, Jason welcomed his first child, a baby girl named Francesca Nora.

Jason started his acting career in 1981, when he portrayed the character of James Cooper Ingalls in the TV drama, Little House on the Prairie. He then went on to appear on shows like, Silver Spoons, It’s Your move, Valerie, George & Leo, Some of My Best Friends, Arrested Development, The Jake Effect, Sit Down Shut Up and various other shows.

Jason has also portrayed various characters in numerous movies. His most prominent movies include, Teen Wolf Too, Love Stinks, Arthur et les Minimoys, The Kingdom, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, State of Play, and The Invention of Lying, etc. The upcoming movies of Jason include Extract, Up in the Air, Couples Retreat, The Baster and Paul, which are currently in various stages of production.

Besides this, Jason has also directed quite a few projects that include Family Matters, Two of a Kind, Brother’s Keeper, For Your Love, Do Not Disturb, etc. He got the distinction of becoming the youngest member of the Directors Guild of America, after he directed 3 episodes of Valerie also known as The Hogan Family in 1986, when he was only 18 years old.

Role In Arrested Development

In Arrested Development, he plays the role of Michael Bluth, the second oldest son of the Bluth family. He is the father of George Michael Bluth, and his wife, Tracy’s death, prior to the start of the series, has made him grow closer and somewhat over-protective of his son. His role in the series is that of a straight man who does not have any other alternative than keeping his family together. After the imprisonment of his father, Michael becomes the head of the family and also takes over as the CEO and president of the Bluth Company, even though his authority is persistently weakened by his family.
